Viral Claim on Retirement Age Hike
A post going round the various social media platforms suggest that the central government has agreed to raise the retirement age of its employees to 62. As highlighted in the post, this decision will take place beginning from April 1, 2025.
This leaves the impression that this change is indeed in the interest of many civil servants because it affords an opportunity to serve until the age of 62 years thereby extending service delivery time and enabling government to tap from available expertise. Moving in this way also means that from the future, pension costs are now going to be lower, this is because employees are going to start receiving pensions two years later.
The Truth Behind the Claim
However, the said claim is completely false. The government has not made a statement about raising the retirement age of central employees to 62. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) the Indian nodal agency for verifying the facts, has refuted this conspiracy theory. They pointed out that as on now, no such decision has been taken by the government on retirement age of central employees either.
PIB also posted that it is misleading news going viral on social media regarding this decision and urged people not to forward this news further until it is confirmed as the truth. I was not able to find any information which will indicate that the government wants to change the retirement age or, at least, issue a notification to its population.
What Does This Mean?
This is to mean that the viral message, where the government has agreed to raise the retirement age to 62, is fake. Surprisingly, and contrary to the new reform, there are no such changes in the retirement rules for central government employees. The contents in the posts are inaccurate and should be ignored by the people.
It is always wise to verify the credibility of such statements before passing on such information. The PIB has given all the right information intending to correct the misunderstandings that may have been occasioned by these myths.
