Delhi Government requires 50% Work From Home because of severe pollution

The government of Delhi has gone a long way in decreasing on the increasing levels of pollution by allowing 50% of its employees to work from home. This move was declared by Gopal Rai, the Environment Minister, as the air pollution in the capital city worsens making it difficult for people to breathe. 

Air pollution in Delhi rises to dangerous levels 

Delhi is passing through one of the severest pollution phases in the recent past presently. Purveyed air and smog have rendered it very dangerous to endure environment conditions outside.

The Air Quality index on Tuesday rose to 500 in some places categorizing it as severe. It has been suggested that through efforts under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Phase IV, pollution has not reduced. 

Government’s Work-From-Home Decision 

Several years ago, Environment Minister Gopal Rai posted on his social network page that the government has started permitting 50% of its employees to work from home. This action is primarily undertaken to try and curb pollution that results from transport to and from work.

One of the decisions that were made for change was to have this implementation plan and it was brought before the officials at the Secretariat and we met to talk about it. 

Health Issues Associated with Pollution 

This neglected at a time, is going down very wrong and consequently, increasing the rates of people getting sick in Delhi. It is causing eye irritation, breathing issues, and even worse cases.

It’s the children and the elderly in the society who are likely to feel the pinch most in the effects of these policies. Pollution is also attributed to adverse chronic health effects such as, low fertility and lung diseases.
