What is DA and DR?
- Dearness Allowance (DA) is paid to the employees in order to act as an inflation allowance.
- Dearness Relief (DR) is paid to pensioners in order to enable them to afford the escalating costs of living.
- DA and DR are reviewed every six months in accordance with the AICPI, which is an index of inflation.
How DA and DR are Calculated?
The DA and DR for January and July each year are determined based on the AICPI data from the previous six months:
- The January update utilizes data from July to December.
- The July update employs data up to June.
