There is an important updation that one has to make related to pensions. Recently, the government has implemented a new pension scheme known as UPS in August, and presently, fraudsters are able to manipulate it. This is a pack of fraudsters who are employing fake calls and other heinous tactics to extort money from pensioners and family pension beneficiaries.
In these calls, they tell victims that pension will be stopped and then ask for their private information. You should remain awake and careful if you ever receive such calls.
How the Scam Works
This is due to pensioners and their families being conned via fake calls, by individuals claiming to be from the Central Pension Accounting Office (CPAO). These scammers are demanding for such details including Pension Payment Order (PPO) number, date of birth, bank account number, and other details.
The measures adopted by the fraudsters
The scammers employ several techniques that they employ to con their victims. They still have the guts to tell pensioner that if they fail to produce the information that was demanded from them, their pension will be withheld effective December 1.
Besides that, the scammers may forward deceptive forms through WhatsApp, email or text messages urging pensioners to complete them. The purpose is to obtain personal data of the individual and try to get into his pensioner bank accounts.
What You Should Do
If you get a similar call again, do not disclose any personal or banking information. This is the reason the government or pension authorities will never telephone you and request for any of these details.
This means that no action that is taken must be done so without first confirming the identity of the caller. If uncertain, its always advisable to contact the official pension office for more information about any changes.
