Subsequently, DOPT minister of UP government has also granted 9% hike in the dearness allowance (DA) to the pensioner and family pensioner those who are beneficiaries of the Uttar Pradesh Pay Committee (2008). This adjustment is only meant for the pensioners who draw their pensions under the provisions of the Sixth Pay Commission. From the 1st of January, 2024, these pensioners will be paid dearness relief at a new rate of 239%.
Payment with October Pension and Arrears
Earlier from July 1, 2023, these pensioners were drawing dearness relief to the extent of 230%. The latest changes have seen the rate raised to 239 percent from January 1, 2024. The dearness relief will be adjusted to move up to October and the arrears will also be paid for nine months starting from January.
Beneficiaries of This Increase:
The replacement, once again, will be adjusted for pensioners and family pensioners of certain categories on account of dearness relief. This include, Pensions given out under the Sixth Pay Commission as approved by the Uttar Pradesh Pay Committee in 2008.
It will also benefit those pensioners who have not been covered under the Seventh Pay Commission pension revision yet. Moreover, those persons, who are receiving provisional pensions as per recommendations of the 2008, are also entitled for this improved dearness relief.
Exemptions from This Order
The order however does not include judges of the High Court, employees of local bodies and other public sector employees. Individual directives from the different departments shall apply to these categories. But pensioners in the education, and the technical education departments where pension is given like the government employees will this revised DA.
Revised Dearness Relief Rates
According to the latest rates, the pensioners will be paid dearness relief on the bare minimum wage on an inclined basis at a rate of 239 percent wef from January 1, 2024.
Ensuring Timely Payment
All concerned departments have been directed to make appropriate disbursals of the increased dearness relief of Rs.50/- per month to the pensioners/family pensioners without any delay. This is the reason the above allowance should be adjusted to add more financial support to the retirees to cope up with the increasing cost of living.
